Instructions for IGNOU Assignment – Before writing and preparing your assignments, candidates who belong to any academic programme of IGNOU have to read every point of assignments carefully which is given in the section. It is necessary for candidates to follow every point so that your assignments will be approved without any issue and you will get a reward for your hard work in the grade card.

Every student has a query that what to write on the IGNOU Assignment Front Page which they have to submit to the concerned study centre of IGNOU. It is compulsory to make the front page of each subject’s assignment so that evaluator can easily understand and know about the details of the submitted assignment. The front page also makes easier for evaluators to faster the process of evaluation. Candidates have to submit their assignments only to the coordinator of their study centre only.

At the time of writing your assignments or after completion of assignments, candidates are confused that what to write on the first page of their IGNOU Assignment so here is a solution of your queries. We have made a list of all required details and information to be written at the cover page of your assignment solution.  Each and every detail is given at the following list is compulsory to write on the page.

  • Use only foolscap size paper or A4 to write your assignments. Do not use thin papers. Leave lines after completing your one answer so that evaluator writes a useful comment on blank areas
  • We recommend using blank paper instead ruled paper to write your assignment
  • Candidates can use a Black or Blue pen to write their assignments for any TEE session.
  • Candidates have to write their assignments with their hand. They cannot copy their answer from any units/blocks given by the university. If you copied then you will get zero marks for that copied question.
  • Do not print your assignments or type answer by the computer which is not allowed
  • Candidates have to write assignment solution with own help, if you copied any assignments from other students then your assignment will be rejected by the centre
  • Prepare or write each course assignment separately. Do not write every assignment in one set.
  • Write each question before an answer.
  • After finishing the work of assignment writing, use a paper file and arrange all your assignments in a proper manner. (Note: Plastic file will not be accepted by the university in any circumstances)
  • Candidate must be sent their complete assignments to the coordinator of the allotted study centre. You cannot send to any other IGNOU centre like Regional Centre, Evaluation Division, and Registration for evaluation.
  • After submitting your assignments to the coordinator, they send an acknowledgement to study centre
  • If you have applied for change your study centre then you have to send your assignments to the original centre until you did not get any confirmation by the University of study centre change. If you got a notice from the university for successfully change centre then you can submit to the new centre.

Without writing assignments and submission, no candidates will be permitted to attend any of the examination conducted by IGNOU. Even students are not eligible to fill their IGNOU Exam Form of any session if they failed to submit their required assignments to the university before the last date of the submission deadline.

      2. Sir, I am doing first year M A history. I have a doubt on the pages. Because one of my friends who is pursuing M A english said me to write 10-15 pages for 20 marks(500 words) question while one of the study center staffs said me to write 2-3 pages. How many pages I need to write?
        I hear that last date has extended to april 30 . Is is true? Then sir, I am a Visually Impaired candidate. so whaat I am doing is I’ll write in a word file and after completing, I would take the help of my friends to write it on the paper. So is there any problem, if two people write two assignments? I mean one person will write one assignment and other will write another.

      3. I want to ask that assignments submitted in march 2019 for june session 2019 are valid for december session 2019 examination.??
        Because i have missed my exams of june session planning to appear in december session 2019.. need to re write assignments for december or they will be valid as i have already submitted for june nd skipped exams

    1. I m confused when my ignou assignment is going to come? I mean i from (1st semester )of December batch so they said it is going to come in August and till September u hve to submit it but I don’t have any idea how much assignments are they going to give me for the frst time in 1st semester and top of that why they don’t provide any notifications for this . Its very tiring. If any1 hve idea so let me knw .


  2. I have applied for MPB ( MBA Banking and Finance). I dint appear for the exams for the last two semesters and I dint send any assingments. Now for which question paper i should submit the assignments? and shall i appear for all the 12 papers this june 2017?

    1. This is Hari from United Bank of India. I completed this course long back. You should apply and write exams in order i.e. first year courses first. You can not club all papers and write exams for all papers in one sitting taking credit of delay. Got it? And, I think there is a cap for each year exams. to complete in a particular year.

      1. I think ignou must encourage the idea of saving paper and tell students to write on both side. This issue is very serious and such big steps by big institutions can help.

  4. Sir i have question regarding the second point
    “They cannot copied their answer from any units/blocks given by university. ”
    What does this actually means?
    Can we use the ignou books to write an ans?
    Can we use internet to find ans?

    1. it means simple.. dont copy the answer from any book.just go through the ignou study material,which is provide by itself university and then write down the summery….

    You say “write question number before each answer” that means we don’t need write questions but suppose I have to fill in the blanks in a later or else where. Will I then need to write that later and then fill in the blanks in that or Can I just write the answers as follows:

    B: Answer
    C: Answer ?

    I have taken admission in july 2018, my exams are in june 2019. Can I appear for exam in dec 2019, also can I submit assignment by sept 2019?   30. Can the ignou assignments be sent by post? If yes,how do i send it? As my Study centre is Delhi-3 and i stay in Assam so is it possible to send my assignments by post.

    1. YES… you can send the same through SPEED-POST and confirm the ACKNOWLEDGEMENT.

      1. No you can’t if you have allotted a study centre to you then you have to submit yourself because you have chosen nearest study centre so that you can personally hand over the assignment to them. Please change study centre if you have moves from old address then contact the IGNOU helpline at once.

        If you will send by post you will not get any marks due to absent at study centre.

        So please careful.

  31. What is last date for submitting PGDT assignment (July 2018 session) and where we have to send it? As per the assignment material received from IGNOU study centre the address given for assignment submission is The registrar, SED, IGNOU , New Delhi. But here it is showing that we have to submit the assignment at our concerned study centre. Please give clarification.

    Whether we can submit typed assignments also or only hand written is acceptable? Kindly guide me.

    1. Do as you wish… the requirement is that ALL PAGES STAYS INTACT including the 1st mandatory Introduction page.

    Can’t copy from units / blocks? Means what? Electronic copy ? Or handwritten matter? Or both?

    its a compulsory to obtain 40 marks out of 100 in each subject for MCA course if we have assignment marks and lab marks also
